Snyder Fire Department

The Snyder Fire Department began operations serving the residents of Snyder, NY in 1916 as the Snyder Hose Company. Today the department responds to an average of 1000 emergency calls a year. The department is composed of all volunteers who donate their time to provide an essential service to the community, as well as devote hours to training to remain up to date with the latest firefighting concepts and tactics along with maintaining a high level of medical care to its residents through constant training.

Basic Emegency Medical Services (EMS) training and certification is provided on several levels, from Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) level, certified first responder (CFR) and Basic First Aid. Initial EMT and CFR training and certification is provided through the Erie County Department of Health which administers the NYS Department of Health curriculum for EMT and CFR training and is done without direct cost to the taxpayers of the Snyder Fire District. On-going EMS training for Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) for triennial recertification is provided to department members by an outside vendor, paid for with tax revenues of the Fire District.

The Snyder Fire Department is a BLS First Response agency and does not transport patients; patient transport and call diversion response is performed by a contract agency, currently Twin City Ambulance.

Basic firematic training (NYS Firefighter I) is provided by New York State through the Office of Fire Prevention and Control and is also done without direct cost to the taxpayers of the Snyder Fire District. Advanced firematic and officer training is also provided by New York State. The Department conducts regular drills on a weekly basis to orient members to local department procedures, refresh skills development and enhance minimum training requirements.
