Snyder Fire Department - Milestones in SFD's History

Milestones in SFD's History

In 1947, the Snyder Fire Department was the first department in the Town of Amherst to provide a chief's vehicle to the Chief of Department, and the first department in Erie County to equip all of the vehicles and firefighters with radios and home receivers. In 1957, the department took delivery of a new Ward LaFrance '57 ladder, the first volunteer ladder truck in Western New York.

The Snyder Fire Department was also the first volunteer fire department to provide Paramedic-level emergency medical service to its residents, starting in 1973. Snyder has since reduced its EMS level to Basic, with the proliferation of paramedic level ambulance services.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

The disadvantage of men not knowing the past is that they do not know the present. History is a hill or high point of vantage, from which alone men see the town in which they live or the age in which they are living.
    Gilbert Keith Chesterton (1874–1936)
