In The Line of Duty
Sadly the department has had two LODD's over the years. In 1956 Firefighter Rudy Lutz suffered a heart attack while working at the scene of a leaf fire. Tragedy struck once again in 1966 when Second Assistant Chief John Bresnahan died of a heart attack he suffered while at the scene of a barn fire at the Park School of Buffalo. Both of these fallen hero's equipment numbers have been retired by the department and plaques in their honor hang in the firehouse.

Famous quotes containing the words line and/or duty:
“What is line? It is life. A line must live at each point along its course in such a way that the artists presence makes itself felt above that of the model.... With the writer, line takes precedence over form and content. It runs through the words he assembles. It strikes a continuous note unperceived by ear or eye. It is, in a way, the souls style, and if the line ceases to have a life of its own, if it only describes an arabesque, the soul is missing and the writing dies.”
—Jean Cocteau (18891963)
“Life is mostly froth and bubble.
Two things stand like stone:
Dodging duty at the double,
Leaving work alone.”
—Anonymous.
