Recent Opening Days
In September 2010, it was announced that MLB would have its teams open the 2011 season on a Thursday (March 31) or Friday (April 1) rather than the traditional Monday, in order to prevent the World Series from extending into November. The season would eventually start on Thursday, March 31. Similarly, most teams opened the 2012 season on Thursday (April 5) or Friday (April 6).

Famous quotes containing the words opening and/or days:
“The busy tribes of flesh and blood,
With all their lives and cares,
Are carried downwards by thy flood,
And lost in following years.
Time, like an ever-rolling stream,
Bears all its sons away;
They fly forgotten, as a dream
Dies at the opening day.”
—Isaac Watts (16741748)
“You have to be nice and congenial and enthusiastic. What makes that so difficult is you have to be nice, congenial, and enthusiastic three hundred and sixty-five days in a row!... You cant have a day off.”
—Shirley Cothran-Barnet (b. c. 1955)
