History and Development

Westfield Carousel was built in 1972, and originally contained 58 shops, a hotel, two takeaway food shops, as well as Woolworths supermarket, Boans (later acquired by Myer), Aherns (later acquired by David Jones) and Walsh's.

It incorporated the site of Boans Waverley Waverley, a standalone (and the first suburban) Boans branch, which opened in 1959. It also later incorporated the Waverley Hotel which stood on the corner of Albany Highway and Cecil Road (now Avenue).

Famous quotes containing the words history and/or development:

In all history no class has been enfranchised without some selfish motive underlying. If to-day we could prove to Republicans or Democrats that every woman would vote for their party, we should be enfranchised.
    Carrie Chapman Catt (1859–1947)

Women, because of their colonial relationship to men, have to fight for their own independence. This fight for our own independence will lead to the growth and development of the revolutionary movement in this country. Only the independent woman can be truly effective in the larger revolutionary struggle.
Women’s Liberation Workshop, Students for a Democratic Society, Radical political/social activist organization. “Liberation of Women,” in New Left Notes (July 10, 1967)
