Logistic Function - Double Logistic Function

Double Logistic Function

The double logistic is a function similar to the logistic function with numerous applications. Its general formula is:

where d is its centre and s is the steepness factor. Here "sgn" represents the sign function.

It is based on the Gaussian curve and graphically it is similar to two identical logistic sigmoids bonded together at the point x = d.

One of its applications is non-linear normalization of a sample, as it has the property of eliminating outliers.

Famous quotes containing the words double and/or function:

... the next war will be a war in which people not armies will suffer, and our boasted, hard-earned civilization will do us no good. Cannot the women rise to this great opportunity and work now, and not have the double horror, if another war comes, of losing their loved ones, and knowing that they lifted no finger when they might have worked hard?
    Eleanor Roosevelt (1884–1962)

Nobody seriously questions the principle that it is the function of mass culture to maintain public morale, and certainly nobody in the mass audience objects to having his morale maintained.
    Robert Warshow (1917–1955)
