Famous quotes containing the words labor, law and/or violation:

The poor, stupid, free American citizen! Free to starve, free to tramp the highways of this great country, he enjoys universal suffrage, and by that right, he has forged chains around his limbs. The reward that he receives is stringent labor laws prohibiting the right of boycott, of picketing, of everything, except the right to be robbed of the fruits of his labor.
    Emma Goldman (1869–1940)

The Law is the true embodiment
    Of everything that’s excellent.
It has no kind of fault or flaw,
And I, my Lords, embody the Law.
    Sir William Schwenck Gilbert (1836–1911)

Injustice, cruelty, restraint of conscience, oppression, falsity, dishonour, deceit, violation of law and equity?—But look how they have cleaned up the cities and what wonderful roads they have built!
    Johan Huizinga (1872–1945)
