Famous quotes containing the word paper:
“Evolution is the law of policies: Darwin said it, Socrates endorsed it, Cuvier proved it and established it for all time in his paper on The Survival of the Fittest. These are illustrious names, this is a mighty doctrine: nothing can ever remove it from its firm base, nothing dissolve it, but evolution.”
—Mark Twain [Samuel Langhorne Clemens] (18351910)
“Once, when lying in bed with no paper at hand, he began to sketch the idea for a new machine on the back of his wifes nightgown. He asked her if she knew the figure he was drawing. Yes, she answered, the figure of a fool.”
—For the State of New Jersey, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)
“The hand that signed the paper felled a city;
Five sovereign fingers taxed the breath,
Doubled the globe of dead and halved a country;
These five kings did a king to death.”
—Dylan Thomas (19141953)
