Walton Bridge

Walton Bridge is a road bridge across the River Thames in England, carrying the A244 between Walton-on-Thames and Shepperton, crossing the Thames on the reach between Sunbury Lock and Shepperton Lock. Five bridges have occupied the site so far, two of which are in place; construction is in progress on the sixth. Before the first bridge the site had a ferry dating at least to the 17th century.

Famous quotes containing the words walton and/or bridge:

    We may say of angling, as Dr. Boteler said of strawberries, “Doubtless God could have made a better berry, but doubtless God never did;” and so, if I might be judge, God never did make a more calm, quiet, innocent recreation than angling.
    —Izaak Walton (1593–1683)

    A circle swoop, and a quick parabola under the bridge arches
    Where light pushes through;
    A sudden turning upon itself of a thing in the air.
    A dip to the water.
    —D.H. (David Herbert)
