Police Department

The UCO Police Department is a full-service, 24-hour police department. There are 17 sworn commissioned police officers, 6 full-time civilian employees and several part-time student employees. The officers attend the Oklahoma State Police Academy (CLEET) in Ada and then a 10-week Field Training Program before working on their own. All officers are cross commissioned with the City of Edmond Police Department and thus enforce Edmond City Ordinances and utilize the city jail and city court system.

Famous quotes containing the words police and/or department:

A sure proportion of rogue and dunce finds its way into every school and requires a cruel share of time, and the gentle teacher, who wished to be a Providence to youth, is grown a martinet, sore with suspicions; knows as much vice as the judge of a police court, and his love of learning is lost in the routine of grammars and books of elements.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

“Which is more important to you, your field or your children?” the department head asked. She replied, “That’s like asking me if I could walk better if you amputated my right leg or my left leg.”
—Anonymous Parent. As quoted in Women and the Work Family Dilemma, by Deborah J. Swiss and Judith P. Walker, ch. 2 (1993)
