Public Star Parties
Star parties whose focus is on bringing the stars to the people are often staged in urban areas where people congregate in large numbers. This is in contrast to star parties typically held in remote dark-sky areas more conducive to stargazing.
Notable star parties include the annual Winter Star Party held in the Florida Keys, the Mid Atlantic Star Party held on the east coast of the United States, the Oregon Star Party, and the Stellafane Convention held in Vermont. In October 2009, President Obama held a star party on the White House lawn.

Famous quotes containing the words public, star and/or parties:
“A spasm band is a miscellaneous collection of a soap box, tin cans, pan tops, nails, drumsticks, and little Negro boys. When mixed in the proper proportions this results in the wildest shuffle dancing, accompanied by a bumping rhythm.”
—For the City of New Orleans, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)
“For rigorous teachers seized my youth,
And purged its faith, and trimmd its fire,
Showd me the high, white star of Truth,
There bade me gaze, and there aspire.
Even now their whispers pierce the gloom:
What dost thou in this living tomb?”
—Matthew Arnold (18221888)
“Jarndyce and Jarndyce drones on. This scarecrow of a suit, has, in course of time, become so complicated that no man alive knows what it means. The parties to it understand it least; but it has been observed that no two Chancery lawyers can talk about it for five minutes, without coming to total disagreement as to all the premises.”
—Charles Dickens (18121870)
