Famous quotes containing the words shallow and/or ground:
“Trench stinks of shallow buried dead
Where Tom stands at the periscope,
Tired out. After nine months hes shed
All fear, all faith, all hate, all hope.”

“O how can it be that the ground itself does not sicken?
How can you be alive you growths of spring?
How can you furnish health you blood of herbs, roots, orchards, grain?
Are they not continually putting distemperd corpses within you?
Is not every continent workd over and over with sour dead?”
—Walt Whitman (18191892)
