Later Years
In 1990, Barretto finally won a Grammy for the album Ritmo en el Corazon ("Rhythm in the Heart"), which featured the vocals of Celia Cruz. Also in the 1990s, a Latin Agent, Chino Rodriguez, approached Barretto with a concept he also pitched to Larry Harlow. The idea was "the Latin Legends of Fania", and Barretto, Harlow, Yomo, Pete "el Conde", Jr. Gonzalez, Ismael Miranda and Adalberto Santiago came together and formed "the Latin Legends of Fania" booked by Chino Rodriguez of Latin Music Booking.com. In 1999, Barretto was inducted into the International Latin Music Hall of Fame.
Barretto lived in New York and was an active musical producer, as well as the leader of a touring band which has embarked in tours of the United States, Europe, Israel and Latin America.

Famous quotes containing the word years:
“For four hundred years the blacks of Haiti had yearned for peace. for three hundred years the island was spoken of as a paradise of riches and pleasures, but that was in reference to the whites to whom the spirit of the land gave welcome. Haiti has meant split blood and tears for blacks.”
—Zora Neale Hurston (18911960)
“You can hardly convince a man of an error in a life-time, but must content yourself with the reflection that the progress of science is slow. If he is not convinced, his grandchildren may be. The geologists tell us that it took one hundred years to prove that fossils are organic, and one hundred and fifty more to prove that they are not to be referred to the Noachian deluge.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
