Rampart Ties To Death Row Records

The Rampart Corruption Task Force investigators discovered that hip-hop mogul Suge Knight, owner of Death Row Records, had several of the corrupt Rampart officers on his payroll, including Kevin Gaines, Nino Durden, Rafael Pérez, and David Mack. Knight was hiring off-duty Rampart police to work for Death Row as security guards for substantial amounts of money. For instance, after Gaines' shooting, investigators discovered Gaines drove a Mercedes, wore designer suits, and found a receipt in his apartment for a $952 restaurant tab at the Los Angeles hangout, Monty's Steakhouse.

Famous quotes containing the words ties, death, row and/or records:

A penniless man who has no ties to bind him is master of himself at any rate, but a luckless wretch who is in love no longer belongs to himself, and may not take his own life. Love makes us almost sacred in our own eyes; it is the life of another that we revere within us; then and so begins for us the cruelest trouble of all.
    Honoré De Balzac (1799–1850)

An “unemployed” existence is a worse negation of life than death itself.
    José Ortega Y Gasset (1883–1955)

You have a row of dominoes set up; you knock over the first one, and what will happen to the last one is that it will go over very quickly.
    Dwight D. Eisenhower (1890–1969)

It’s always the generals with the bloodiest records who are the first to shout what a hell it is. And it’s always the war widows who lead the Memorial Day parades.
    Paddy Chayefsky (1923–1981)
