Politics of Australia

The politics of Australia take place within the framework of a federal constitutional parliamentary democracy and constitutional monarchy. Australia largely operates as a two-party system in which voting is compulsory.

Famous quotes containing the words politics and/or australia:

If American politics are too dirty for women to take part in, there’s something wrong with American politics.
    Edna Ferber (1887–1968)

It is very considerably smaller than Australia and British Somaliland put together. As things stand at present there is nothing much the Texans can do about this, and ... they are inclined to shy away from the subject in ordinary conversation, muttering defensively about the size of oranges.
Alex Atkinson, British humor writer. repr. In Present Laughter, ed. Alan Coren (1982)
