Nordic green left refers to a specific brand of socialism from the Nordic countries that incorporates elements of environmentalism and feminism. Nordic green left parties are organized in:
- a subgroup of the European United Left–Nordic Green Left-group (EUL–NGL) in the European parliament called Nordic Green Left, in this the Finnish Left Alliance and the Swedish Left Party participate as full members, the Norwegian Socialist Left Party participates as an observer and the Danish Socialist People's Party has participated in the past.
- an alliance of political parties called Nordic Green Left Alliance (NGLA), which consists out of all aforementioned parties and the Left-Green Movement. The NGLA participates as an observer in the Party of the European Left, which is the other subgroup of the UEL/NGL.
Famous quotes containing the words green and/or left:
“Of a green evening, clear and warm,
She bathed in her still garden, while
The red-eyed elders watching, felt
The basses of their beings throb
In witching chords, and their thin blood
Pulse pizzicati of Hosanna.”
—Wallace Stevens (18791955)
“There is but little virtue in the action of masses of men. When the majority shall at length vote for the abolition of slavery, it will be because they are indifferent to slavery, or because there is but little slavery left to be abolished by their vote. They will then be the only slaves. Only his vote can hasten the abolition of slavery who asserts his own freedom by his vote.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
