Founded in 1912, the Middle Atlantic Conferences (MAC) is an umbrella organization of three athletic conferences which competes in the NCAA's Division III. The 18-member teams are located in the Mid-Atlantic United States.
The organization is divided into two main conferences: the Commonwealth Conference and the Freedom Conference. A third conference — named the Middle Atlantic Conference — combines members from both conferences and is used for certain sports that only a smaller set of members participate in, such as track and field and cross country.

Famous quotes containing the words middle and/or atlantic:
“The test of an adventure is that when youre in the middle of it, you say to yourself, Oh, now Ive got myself into an awful mess; I wish I were sitting quietly at home. And the sign that somethings wrong with you is when you sit quietly at home wishing you were out having lots of adventure.”
—Thornton Wilder (18971975)
“Tell [the next Miss America] she is taking on a great responsibility. A responsibility to herself, to her people, to the Miss American Pageant, the people of Atlantic City, her state and her nation. Tell her the country and the world will judge America by her.”
—Colleen Kay Hutchins (b. c. 1932)
