Long Run

LongRun and LongRun2 are power management technologies introduced by Transmeta. LongRun was introduced with the Crusoe processor, while LongRun2 was introduced with the Efficeon processor. LongRun2 has since been licensed to Fujitsu, NEC, Sony, Toshiba, and NVIDIA.

LongRun was based primarily on aggressively reducing the clock frequency and voltage supplied to the processor, in order to reduce active power consumption. LongRun2 built further on this by incorporating process technology meant to reduce variations in the manufacturing process and thereby improve yields.

Famous quotes containing the words long run, long and/or run:

If it is asserted that civilization is a real advance in the condition of man,—and I think that it is, though only the wise improve their advantages,—it must be shown that it has produced better dwellings without making them more costly; and the cost of a thing is the amount of what I will call life which is required to be exchanged for it, immediately or in the long run.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

How long will you lie there, O lazybones? When will you rise from your sleep?
    Bible: Hebrew, Proverbs 6:9.

We perversely see mother love as the problem—when it is all we have to sustain us—rather than blaming the fathers who have run out on our mothers and on us. We seem willing to forgive fathers for loving too little even as we still shrink in terror from mothers who love too much.
    Frank Pittman (20th century)
