This is a list of cities and towns in Slovakia. This list of cities and towns shows the Slovak names first, then the historical German name, then the mostly historical Hungarian name, and finally the town's population as of 2006 (31. 12.). (Note that the German or Hungarian are used by the respective ethnic minorities and the Hungarian names are also used in Hungary and other countries in the Carpathian Basin. In communities where the ethnic minority represents 20% or more of the population, it has certain cultural and linguistic rights.)

Famous quotes containing the words list of, list, cities and/or towns:
“Every morning I woke in dread, waiting for the day nurse to go on her rounds and announce from the list of names in her hand whether or not I was for shock treatment, the new and fashionable means of quieting people and of making them realize that orders are to be obeyed and floors are to be polished without anyone protesting and faces are to be made to be fixed into smiles and weeping is a crime.”
—Janet Frame (b. 1924)
“The advice of their elders to young men is very apt to be as unreal as a list of the hundred best books.”
—Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. (18411935)
“How far men go for the material of their houses! The inhabitants of the most civilized cities, in all ages, send into far, primitive forests, beyond the bounds of their civilization, where the moose and bear and savage dwell, for their pine boards for ordinary use. And, on the other hand, the savage soon receives from cities iron arrow-points, hatchets, and guns, to point his savageness with.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“The scenery of mountain towns is commonly too much crowded. A town which is built on a plain of some extent, with an open horizon, and surrounded by hills at a distance, affords the best walks and views.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
