The reverse bears the outline of Kosovo, below the outline is the NATO star, with highlights of the cardinal points, depicted by the compass like design of the star. Around the outside edge is the inscription IN DEFENSE OF HUMANITY. The medal is suspended from a ribbon 35 millimetres (1.4 in) wide. The ribbon is half blue and half red with equal stripes of red, white, and blue in the center.

Famous quotes containing the word appearance:
“February is a suitable month for dying. Everything around is dead, the trees black and frozen so that the appearance of green shoots two months hence seems preposterous, the ground hard and cold, the snow dirty, the winter hateful, hanging on too long.”
—Anna Quindlen (b. 1952)
“The true, prescriptive artist strives after artistic truth; the lawless artist, following blind instinct, after an appearance of naturalness. The one leads to the highest peaks of art, the other to its lowest depths.”
—Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe (17491832)
“The whole appearance is a toy. For this,
The dove in the belly builds his nest and coos,
Selah, tempestuous bird. How is it that
The rivers shine and hold their mirrors up,
Like excellence collecting excellence?”
—Wallace Stevens (18791955)
