Community Remembrance
In the days following Nuxhall's death, several radio stations in the Cincinnati area devoted shows to him, and fans left cards, flowers and banners at the statue of Nuxhall at Great American Ball Park. A public visitation ceremony was attended by thousands of fans and several local and national sports and broadcasting personalities. At his visitation held at Fairfield High School (Fairfield, Ohio), an estimated 6,000 people showed up to pay their respects to Nuxhall and the Nuxhall family.

Famous quotes containing the words community and/or remembrance:
“Who ever hears of fat men heading a riot, or herding together in turbulent mobs?Nono, tis your lean, hungry men who are continually worrying society, and setting the whole community by the ears.”
—Washington Irving (17831859)
“If I had my life over again I should form the habit of nightly composing myself to thoughts of death. I would practise, as it were, the remembrance of death. There is no other practice which so intensifies life. Death, when it approaches, ought not to take one by surprise. It should be part of the full expectancy of life. Without an ever- present sense of death life is insipid. You might as well live on the whites of eggs.”
—Muriel Spark (b. 1918)
