Jacoby Transfer - Transfers Following An Intervening Bid

Transfers Following An Intervening Bid

Standard bidding in most systems is that all responses following a natural suit overcall are themselves natural bids ("double" may be used for take-out). An alternative is that such responses, including "double", act as transfers. For example, following a 1NT opening and a 2 overcall:

  • double ... transfer to hearts
  • 2♥ ... transfer to spades
  • 2♠ ... transfer to clubs

Famous quotes containing the words intervening and/or bid:

    The whole tree itself is but one leaf, and rivers are still vaster leaves whose pulp is intervening earth, and towns and cities are the ova of insects in their axils.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

    O tiger’s heart wrapped in a woman’s hide!
    How couldst thou drain the lifeblood of the child,
    To bid the father wipe his eyes withal,
    And yet be seen to bear a woman’s face?
    Women are soft, mild, pitiful, and flexible;
    Thou stern, obdurate, flinty, rough, remorseless.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)
