Hot Wheels

Hot Wheels is a brand of 1:64 scale (and later 1:43 scale) die cast toy car, introduced by American toymaker Mattel in 1968. It was the primary competitor of Matchbox until 1996, when Mattel bought Tyco, the then owner of Matchbox. Many automobile manufacturers have licensed Hot Wheels to make scale models of their cars, allowing the use of original design blueprints. Although originally marketed to children, they have become popular with adult collectors, to whom limited edition models are now made available.

Famous quotes containing the words hot and/or wheels:

When shot, the deer seldom drops immediately, but runs sometimes for hours, the hunter in hot pursuit. This phase, known as ‘deer running,’ develops fleet runners, particularly in deer- jacking expeditions when the law is pursuing the hunters as swiftly as the hunters are pursuing the deer.
—For the State of Maine, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)

    no little brass rollers
and small easy wheels on the bottom—
my townspeople what are you thinking of!
    A rough plain hearse then
with gilt wheels and no top at all.
    William Carlos Williams (1883–1963)
