Gay Slur Controversy
In 2002, Hearst made inflammatory anti-gay comments to the Fresno Bee after Esera Tuaolo came out of the closet. "Aww, hell no! I don't want any faggots on my team. Famous quotes containing the words gay, slur and/or controversy:
“The comfortable estate of widowhood is the only hope that keeps up a wifes spirits.”
—John Gay (16851732)
“Wise Draco comes, deep in the midnight roll
Of black artillery; he comes, though late;
In code corroborating Calvins creed
And cynic tyrannies of honest kings;
He comes, nor parlies; and the Town, redeemed,
Gives thanks devout; nor, being thankful, heeds
The grimy slur on the Republics faith implied,
Which holds that Man is naturally good,
Andmoreis Natures Roman, never to be
scourged.”
—Herman Melville (18191891)
“And therefore, as when there is a controversy in an account, the parties must by their own accord, set up for right Reason, the Reason of some Arbitrator, or Judge, to whose sentence, they will both stand, or their controversy must either come to blows, or be undecided, for want of a right Reason constituted by Nature; so is it also in all debates of what kind soever.”
—Thomas Hobbes (15791688)
