The term copyright protection may refer to two things:
- The monopoly granted to authors by copyright, as in "The 1996 act provided additional copyright protection," or "Permission is not granted to use these images, which are protected by copyright."
- Copy protection mechanisms that prevent data, usually digital data, from being copied. The term "copyright protection" is occasionally seen in this usage, but is an error; copy protection or Digital Rights Management is the usual term.
Famous quotes containing the word protection:
“Freedom of religion, freedom of the press, and freedom of person under the protection of habeas corpus, and trial by juries impartially selected. These principles form the bright constellation which has gone before us, and guided our steps through an age of revolution and reformation.”
—Thomas Jefferson (17431826)
