Turning professional in 1989, Wilkinson represented Great Britain at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, where he was defeated in the first round by Morocco's Younes El Aynaoui. The right-hander reached his highest singles ATP-ranking on 13 September 1993, when he became the World No. 114.
Wilkinson currently teaches tennis at Lee-on-the-Solent Tennis Club (LOST Club) on the south coast of England, while living in Rowlands Castle "the posh part of Leigh Park". He coaches several young prospects at the club as well as performing alongside Martin Lee on the club's NCL team (finishing 3rd in their first season).
Wilkinson serves as a tennis commentator and columnist for ESPN.

Famous quotes containing the word career:
“Whether lawyer, politician or executive, the American who knows whats good for his career seeks an institutional rather than an individual identity. He becomes the man from NBC or IBM. The institutional imprint furnishes him with pension, meaning, proofs of existence. A man without a company name is a man without a country.”
—Lewis H. Lapham (b. 1935)
“John Browns career for the last six weeks of his life was meteor-like, flashing through the darkness in which we live. I know of nothing so miraculous in our history.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“In time your relatives will come to accept the idea that a career is as important to you as your family. Of course, in time the polar ice cap will melt.”
—Barbara Dale (b. 1940)
