There are several holidays that are characterized by specific meals. On Christmas Eve, it is a tradition to have vegetarian stuffed peppers and vegetarian stuffed vine leaves. On New Year's Eve, there are dishes made with cabbage. Famous quotes containing the words holiday and/or meals:

I can’t stand to sing the same song the same way two nights in succession, let alone two years or ten years. If you can, then it ain’t music, it’s close-order drill or exercise or yodeling or something, not music.
    —Billie Holiday (1915–1959)

Three meals of thin gruel a day, with an onion twice a week, and half a roll on Saturdays.
    Charles Dickens (1812–1870)
