In Popular Culture

On ska band Five Iron Frenzy's Our Newest Album Ever, the song "Banner Year" is about Black Kettle, how he was betrayed, and his eventual murder at the hands of Custer.

Black Kettle was a regular character in the television series Dr. Quinn: Medicine Woman until the third season episode "Washita" in which his tribe was massacred, in reference to the Battle of Washita River.

Famous quotes containing the words popular and/or culture:

Christianity will go. It will vanish and shrink. I needn’t argue with that; I’m right and I will be proved right. We’re more popular than Jesus now; I don’t know which will go first—rock and roll or Christianity.
    John Lennon (1940–1980)

If you’re anxious for to shine in the high esthetic line as a man
    of culture rare,
You must get up all the germs of the transcendental terms, and plant
    them everywhere.
You must lie upon the daisies and discourse in novel phrases of your
    complicated state of mind,
The meaning doesn’t matter if it’s only idle chatter of a
    transcendental kind.
    Sir William Schwenck Gilbert (1836–1911)
