Scouting in Utah - Executive Pay Controversy

Executive Pay Controversy

In 2007 it was disclosed that the leader of the Great Salt Lake Council received more than $200,000 a year in compensation. Executive pay became an issue again in 2011 during the annual Friends of Scouting campaign. During that time, a scout leader in an LDS ward distributed a disclaimer that the Friends of Scouting monies do not directly benefit the local Scout troop, but are used to pay expenses at the Council and National level, including executive pay which he felt was excessive. The leader was subsequently removed from his scouting role by his ecclesiastical leaders.

Famous quotes containing the words executive, pay and/or controversy:

She isn’t harassed. She’s busy, and it’s glamorous to be busy. Indeed, the image of the on- the-go working mother is very like the glamorous image of the busy top executive. The scarcity of the working mother’s time seems like the scarcity of the top executive’s time.... The analogy between the busy working mother and the busy top executive obscures the wage gap between them at work, and their different amounts of backstage support at home.
    Arlie Hochschild (20th century)

I wish my countrymen to consider that whatever the human law may be, neither an individual nor a nation can ever commit the least act of injustice against the obscurest individual without having to pay the penalty for it. A government which deliberately enacts injustice, and persists in it, will at length even become the laughing-stock of the world.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Ours was a highly activist administration, with a lot of controversy involved ... but I’m not sure that it would be inconsistent with my own political nature to do it differently if I had it to do all over again.
Jimmy Carter (James Earl Carter, Jr.)
