Landmarks

One of the most popular landmarks in Huish Episcopi is the Rose and Crown pub, which was built around 1800 and is known to its patrons as "Eli's". A homely, family-run pub, Eli's serves its customers from a flagstone-floored cellar with no bar. Until 2007 the pub had a simple cash box instead of a till. The pub is described at length in The Longest Crawl by Ian Marchant.

Eli's reopened for business in May 2009 following a refit, it having been closed since it was flooded during the winter.

Famous quotes containing the word landmarks:

The lives of happy people are dense with their own doings—crowded, active, thick.... But the sorrowing are nomads, on a plain with few landmarks and no boundaries; sorrow’s horizons are vague and its demands are few.
    Larry McMurtry (b. 1936)

Of all the bewildering things about a new country, the absence of human landmarks is one of the most depressing and disheartening.
    Willa Cather (1873–1947)
