Aspropyrgos - Industry

Industry

The Aspropyrgos Refinery, south of the city, has been producing oil for many years. It is the largest in Greece, with an annual capacity of 135,000 bbl/d (21,500 m3/d). As a consequence, pollution has been a problem for years. The refinery includes depots in the southern and eastern parts, and some in the western part and at a dock to the southwest. Skaramangas Bay lies to the south ; and a lagoon where the area is less than 1 km². The highway is in the west and the boundary with Chaidari is in the south, with the Aegaleo Ring situated in the east but not fully accessible.

Aspropyrgos used to be a petroleum producing-community, and oil was its main industry together with agriculture. Agriculture is, however, rare today.

Aspropyrgos has schools, secondary schools, colleges, banks, a post office, a train station, a port, and town squares (plateia).

You must, to get through life well, practice industry with economy, never create a debt for anything that is not absolutely necessary, and if you make a promise to pay money at a day certain, be sure to comply with it. If you do not, you lay yourself liable to have your feelings injured and your reputation destroyed with the just imputation of violating your word.
    Andrew Jackson (1767–1845)
