Famous quotes containing the words young, pioneers and/or china:

    May Allah keep her
And other wives from me. But this young slave
For the Caliph? Well, only her thin mouth to save
My soul I can’t forget, nor her slack eyes:
The oasis of age is sand and lies.
    Allen Tate (1899–1979)

Printer, philosopher, scientist, author and patriot, impeccable husband and citizen, why isn’t he an archetype? Pioneers, Oh Pioneers! Benjamin was one of the greatest pioneers of the United States. Yet we just can’t do with him. What’s wrong with him then? Or what’s wrong with us?
    —D.H. (David Herbert)

It is the good Adam contemplating his own virtue.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
