Windsor Avenue Congregational Church

Windsor Avenue Congregational Church is the historic name for a brick Romanesque Revival style church building built around 1872 and located at 2030 Main Street, Hartford, Connecticut.

The current congregation is Faith Congregational Church, which has been at this location since Talcott Street Congregational Church merged with Mother Bethel Methodist Church in 1953 to become Faith Congregational Church.

Since its founding in 1819 Talcott Street Congregational Church has a history as an early African American church. The church is a stop on the Connecticut Freedom Trail and is listed on the United States National Register of Historic Places (1993).

Famous quotes containing the words avenue and/or church:

Extemporaneous speaking should be practised and cultivated. It is the lawyer’s avenue to the public.... And yet there is not a more fatal error to young lawyers than relying too much on speechmaking. If any one, upon his rare powers of speaking, shall claim an exemption from the drudgery of the law, his case is a failure in advance.
    Abraham Lincoln (1809–1865)

If church prelates, past or present, had even an inkling of physiology they’d realise that what they term this inner ugliness creates and nourishes the hearing ear, the seeing eye, the active mind, and energetic body of man and woman, in the same way that dirt and dung at the roots give the plant its delicate leaves and the full-blown rose.
    Sean O’Casey (1884–1964)
