Willard Beach and Park - History

History

The lake was originally called Coguagiack, a Native American term referring to the "undulating" prairie surrounding the lake. This was area was home for the Potawatimi tribe and Goguac Lake was said to be a gathering place for them from time to time.

Since being settled by the English in the early nineteenth century, Goguac Lake has provided irrigation for crops, a ready supply of water and a focal point for community recreation.
