Setting
Wildwood Dancing is set in early 1500s Transylvania, and tells the story of five young sisters from the ages of five to seventeen, in the first person from the point of view of Jenica (called 'Jena'), the second sister. This time period would precede the writing of Bram Stoker's Dracula, and therefore Marillier's Night People would not be referred to as vampires.

Famous quotes containing the word setting:
“We dont arrive at it by standing on one leg or on the first day of our setting outbut though we may jostle one another on the way that is no reason why we should strike or trampleelbowings enough.”
—George Gordon Noel Byron (17881824)
“When I consider the clouds stretched in stupendous masses across the sky, frowning with darkness or glowing with downy light, or gilded with the rays of the setting sun, like the battlements of a city in the heavens, their grandeur appears thrown away on the meanness of my employment; the drapery is altogether too rich for such poor acting. I am hardly worthy to be a suburban dweller outside those walls.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“Oh, lets go up the hill and scare ourselves,
As reckless as the best of them tonight,
By setting fire to all the brush we piled
With pitchy hands to wait for rain or snow....”
—Robert Frost (18741963)
