History
Wake Tech was founded on April 3, 1958 as the Wake County Industrial Education Center. The school opened its doors on October 7, 1963, with 304 enrolled students, 34 of whom were registered in curriculum studies and 270 who were enrolled in vocational training programs. The school became Wake Technical Community College on December 1, 1987. On October 15, 2003, Dr. Stephen Scott assumed the responsibilities as President from retiring President Bruce Inman Howell. Wake Tech currently offers 180 different associate degrees and diplomas as well as many different continuing education (non-credit) programs.
Wake Technical Community College first received school accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools in 1969.
