Vienna State Opera Ballet

The Vienna State Opera Ballet, like the opera company, is based at the Vienna State Opera House in Vienna, Austria. The original building was destroyed by Allied bombing in 1945.

The ballet company performs to a worldwide audience each New Year's Day by means of the Vienna Philharmonic New Year's Day Concerts, the televised broadcast of which includes several pre-recorded dance sequences.

Famous quotes containing the words vienna, state, opera and/or ballet:

All the terrors of the French Republic, which held Austria in awe, were unable to command her diplomacy. But Napoleon sent to Vienna M. de Narbonne, one of the old noblesse, with the morals, manners, and name of that interest, saying, that it was indispensable to send to the old aristocracy of Europe men of the same connection, which, in fact, constitutes a sort of free- masonry. M. de Narbonne, in less than a fortnight, penetrated all the secrets of the imperial cabinet.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

In common with other rural regions much of the Iowa farm lore concerns the coming of company. When the rooster crows in the doorway, or the cat licks his fur, company is on the way.
—For the State of Iowa, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)

The Opera is obviously the first draft of a fine spectacle; it suggests the idea of one.
    —Jean De La Bruyère (1645–1696)

Anyone who has a child today should train him to be either a physicist or a ballet dancer. Then he’ll escape.
