Utah State Aggies - Football

Football

Aggie football has an overall record of 504–509–31 (.498)

After many years of futility, the Aggies are currently experiencing a renaissance under head coach Gary Andersen, who replaced Brent Guy following the 2008 season. The 2011 campaign was the team's first winning season in many years, resulting in a postseason bowl berth. 2012 has brought the school's first-ever 10-win season and WAC championship (its first outright conference championship since 1936), and national Top 25 rankings in all three major polls.

The Aggies have played in seven bowl games in their history, winning two. The team's first victory came in the 1993 Las Vegas Bowl against Ball State. The team has made two consecutive bowl appearances, both in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, in 2011 and 2012. The team lost to Ohio in the 2011 edition and defeated Toledo 41–15 in the 2012 edition.

USU football is played at Romney Stadium, which seats 25,513.

Famous quotes containing the word football:

Idon’t enjoy getting knocked about on a football field for other people’s amusement. I enjoy it if I’m being paid a lot for it.
    David Storey (b. 1933)

In football they measure forty-yard sprints. Nobody runs forty yards in basketball. Maybe you run the ninety-four feet of the court; then you stop, not on a dime, but on Miss Liberty’s torch. In football you run over somebody’s face.
    Donald Hall (b. 1928)

People stress the violence. That’s the smallest part of it. Football is brutal only from a distance. In the middle of it there’s a calm, a tranquility. The players accept pain. There’s a sense of order even at the end of a running play with bodies stewn everywhere. When the systems interlock, there’s a satisfaction to the game that can’t be duplicated. There’s a harmony.
    Don Delillo (b. 1926)
