Upper Bicutan National High School - History

History

Upper Bicutan National High School was legislated during the term of former Congressman Allan Peter Cayetano. The land area occupying the school is under the memorandum of agreement between the Department of Science and Technology and Department of Education - Division of Taguig City and Pateros signed through an usufruct status.

The institution started in the school year 2005-2006 with eleven (11) teachers under the leadership of Nelson S. Quintong. The first seven (7) months is the most difficult times in the history of the academe with no equipment and materials for teaching, students patiently sat on rice sack just to learn and teachers alternately rest and work in one table with two chairs and one electric fan, even the officer in charge had given up his position.

On January, 2006, the school was turn-over to the leadership of Mr. Nestor R. Ramos who resolved the problems and lifted the school into a stage of development. Equipments and materials were gradually raised through partnership with the non-governmental organization like the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP). Deped Adopt a school program also helped the school together with Mead Johnson Philippines for computer donations.

The school intensely progressed when Mayor Sigfrido R. TiƱga sustained the needs of the school by providing teachers from the local school board and donating equipments that aids the teachers in teaching. The school during that time, had no Maintenance, Operation and other Expenses or MOOE but through the effort of Mr. Ramos and other school officials, the school was able to purchase its own equipments like the risograph machine, photocopying machine, overhead projectors and others to name a few and was able to construct ancillary offices. Student activities and leadership was intensified, in fact through the effort of the Supreme Student Government Organization the school was able to finance its Learning Resource Center complete with books with a section of the cybrary (computers section with access to the internet) with the help of GIL@S and a paging and sound system for the school. The school for three consecutive years ranked high in the National Achievement test. All these accomplishment was possible through the cooperation of the faculty, parents, students, the local government unit and non governmental organizations.

Last July, 2008, the leadership of the school was turn-over to Mr. Santiago T. Alvis. His term as a principal will continuously move the school to a higher level of development.

The population of the school for the school year 2011-2012 is four thousand five hundred students and 115 teachers.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

If usually the “present age” is no very long time, still, at our pleasure, or in the service of some such unity of meaning as the history of civilization, or the study of geology, may suggest, we may conceive the present as extending over many centuries, or over a hundred thousand years.
    Josiah Royce (1855–1916)

It gives me the greatest pleasure to say, as I do from the bottom of my heart, that never in the history of the country, in any crisis and under any conditions, have our Jewish fellow citizens failed to live up to the highest standards of citizenship and patriotism.
    William Howard Taft (1857–1930)

the future is simply nothing at all. Nothing has happened to the present by becoming past except that fresh slices of existence have been added to the total history of the world. The past is thus as real as the present.
    Charlie Dunbar Broad (1887–1971)
