Its main objective is to promote a culture of work and service through excellence in all academic activities, grounding its intellectual endeavors on man’s quest for truth.
"The Universidad de Montevideo maintains links with European and American Universities in order to enrich the quality of its academic programs, through bilateral co-operation agreements encouraging student and faculty exchange programs and advocating inter-institutional projects, publications and research. It is nationally and internationally respected, and its students are in demand by employers because of the high quality of its teaching. It has had close connections with industry, the public and voluntary sectors since its inception.
"The Universidad de Montevideo requested that the Roman Catholic Prelature of Opus Dei provide appropriate spiritual guidance with no distinction of creed, in order to instill the virtues required for a functioning society."

Famous quotes containing the word mission:

Perhaps the mission of those who love mankind is to make people laugh at the truth, to make truth laugh, because the only truth lies in learning to free ourselves from insane passion for the truth.
    Umberto Eco (b. 1932)

... [a] girl one day flared out and told the principal “the only mission opening before a girl in his school was to marry one of those candidates [for the ministry].” He said he didn’t know but it was. And when at last that same girl announced her desire and intention to go to college it was received with about the same incredulity and dismay as if a brass button on one of those candidate’s coats had propounded a new method for squaring the circle or trisecting the arc.
    Anna Julia Cooper (1859–1964)

We can come up with a working definition of life, which is what we did for the Viking mission to Mars. We said we could think in terms of a large molecule made up of carbon compounds that can replicate, or make copies of itself, and metabolize food and energy. So that’s the thought: macrocolecule, metabolism, replication.
    Cyril Ponnamperuma (b. 1923)
