Umbrella Title

An umbrella title is a formal or informal name connecting a number of individual items with a common theme. It is most often used in lieu of listing separately the separate components or providing a convenient "label" for a collection of disciplines.

Famous quotes containing the words umbrella and/or title:

“There are certain things—as, a spider, a ghost,
The income-tax, gout, an umbrella for three—
That I hate, but the thing that I hate the most
Is a thing they call the Sea.”
—Lewis Carroll [Charles Lutwidge Dodgson] (1832–1898)

“It was his title that killed me. I had never spoken to a lord before. Oh, me! what a fool, what a beast I have been!”
    —Anthony Trollope (1815–1882)
