Famous quotes containing the word nature:

The idiot, the Indian, the child and unschooled farmer’s boy, stand nearer to the light by which nature is to be read, than the dissector or the antiquary.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

    What generous beliefs console
The brave whom Fate denies the goal!
If others reach it, is content:
To Heaven’s high will his will is bent.
    Firm on his heart relied,
    What lot soe’er betide,
    Work of his hand
    He nor repents nor grieves,
    Pleads for itself the fact,
    As unrepenting Nature leaves
    Her every act.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

We could not help contrasting the equanimity of Nature with the bustle and impatience of man. His words and actions presume always a crisis near at hand, but she is forever silent and unpretending.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
