Tirhut (Devnagri:तिरहुत Tirhuta: তিরহুত) is a region in Bihar, India. Its name is a simplification of the Sanskrit word Tirbhukti (তিরভুক্তী/तिरभुक्ती), which means a land bounded by 3 rivers. The rivers defining Tirhut are Gandak in the west, Kosi in the east and Ganga in the south.
