Types of Systems

Systems are classified in different ways:-

  1. Physical or Abstract systems.
  2. Open or Closed systems.
  3. 'Man-made' Information systems.
  4. Formal Information systems.
  5. Informal Information systems.
  6. Computer Based Information systems.
  7. Real Time System.

Physical systems are tangible entities that may be static or dynamic in operation.

An open system has many interfaces with its environment. i.e. system that interacts freely with its environment, taking input and returning output. It permits interaction across its boundary; it receives inputs from and delivers outputs to the outside. A closed system does not interact with the environment; changes in the environment and adaptability are not issues for closed system.

Famous quotes containing the words types of, types and/or systems:

Science is intimately integrated with the whole social structure and cultural tradition. They mutually support one other—only in certain types of society can science flourish, and conversely without a continuous and healthy development and application of science such a society cannot function properly.
    Talcott Parsons (1902–1979)

He’s one of those know-it-all types that, if you flatter the wig off him, he chatter like a goony bird at mating time.
—Michael Blankfort. Lewis Milestone. Johnson (Reginald Gardner)

Before anything else, we need a new age of Enlightenment. Our present political systems must relinquish their claims on truth, justice and freedom and have to replace them with the search for truth, justice, freedom and reason.
    Friedrich Dürrenmatt (1921–1990)
