Death
On June 15, 1965, at the age of 48, Cochran died on his yacht off the coast of Guatemala due to an acute lung infection. His body, along with three live but upset female assistants, remained aboard for ten days since the three women did not know how to operate the boat. The boat drifted to shore in Port Champerico, Guatemala and was found by authorities. There were various rumors of foul play and poisoning, and Merle Oberon tried to use her influence to push for further police investigations. No new evidence was found.
British singer-songwriter Morrissey was named Steven after Cochran.

Famous quotes containing the word death:
“I can only see death and more death, till we are black and swollen with death.”
—D.H. (David Herbert)
“Perhaps it is nothingness which is real and our dream which is non-existent, but then we feel think that these musical phrases, and the notions related to the dream, are nothing too. We will die, but our hostages are the divine captives who will follow our chance. And death with them is somewhat less bitter, less inglorious, perhaps less probable.”
—Marcel Proust (18711922)
“Your father was ever virtuous, and holy men at their death have good inspirations.”
—William Shakespeare (15641616)
