Slinger Speedway - Track History

Track History

The track opened in 1948 and continued with a clay surface through the 1973 season. When it opened for the 1974 season, it was the asphalt high-banked oval as it remains to this day. It also had a paved "X" infield added in the late 70's, allowing for Figure 8 racing at the end of the weekly Sunday night race events.

Famous quotes containing the words track and/or history:

Our achievements speak for themselves. What we have to keep track of are our failures, discouragements, and doubts. We tend to forget the past difficulties, the many false starts, and the painful groping. We see our past achievements as the end result of a clean forward thrust, and our present difficulties as signs of decline and decay.
    Eric Hoffer (1902–1983)

No one can understand Paris and its history who does not understand that its fierceness is the balance and justification of its frivolity. It is called a city of pleasure; but it may also very specially be called a city of pain. The crown of roses is also a crown of thorns. Its people are too prone to hurt others, but quite ready also to hurt themselves. They are martyrs for religion, they are martyrs for irreligion; they are even martyrs for immorality.
    Gilbert Keith Chesterton (1874–1936)
