Silver Service is a brand applied by Amtrak to rail services on the United States East Coast between New York City and Miami, Florida. This comprises two long-distance trains:
- Silver Meteor
- Silver Star
These two services follow the same general path between New York City and Miami, but diverge between Rocky Mount, North Carolina and Savannah, Georgia. The Silver Meteor takes a coastal route through Fayetteville, North Carolina, Florence and Charleston, South Carolina, while the Silver Star takes an inland route through Raleigh and Cary, North Carolina, and Camden and Columbia, South Carolina. The Silver Star also serves Tampa, Florida.
Between 1996-2002 Amtrak operated a third New York–Miami train under this brand named the Silver Palm.
Famous quotes containing the words silver and/or service:
“Indeed, I thought, slipping the silver into my purse ... what a change of temper a fixed income will bring about. No force in the world can take from me my five hundred pounds. Food, house and clothing are mine for ever. Therefore not merely do effort and labour cease, but also hatred and bitterness. I need not hate any man; he cannot hurt me. I need not flatter any man; he has nothing to give me.”
—Virginia Woolf (18821941)
“For those parents from lower-class and minority communities ... [who] have had minimal experience in negotiating dominant, external institutions or have had negative and hostile contact with social service agencies, their initial approaches to the school are often overwhelming and difficult. Not only does the school feel like an alien environment with incomprehensible norms and structures, but the families often do not feel entitled to make demands or force disagreements.”
—Sara Lawrence Lightfoot (20th century)
