Famous quotes containing the word waves:

    The waves have now a redder glow—
    The hours are breathing faint and low—
    And when, amid no earthly moans,
    Down, down that town shall settle hence,
    Hell, rising from a thousand thrones,
    Shall do it reverence.
    Edgar Allan Poe (1809–1849)

    There is no sea more dangerous than the ocean of practical politics—none in which there is more need of good pilotage and of a single, unfaltering purpose when the waves rise high.
    Thomas Henry Huxley (1825–1895)

    Come unto these yellow sands,
    And then take hands.
    Curtsied when you have and kissed
    The wild waves whist,
    Foot it featly here and there;
    And, sweet sprites, the burden bear.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)
