Robust Header Compression - Additional Compression Profiles

Additional Compression Profiles

The RFC 3095 defines a generic compression mechanism. It may be extended by defining new compression profiles dedicated to specific protocol headers. New RFCs were published to compress new protocols:

  • The RFC 3843 defines a compression profile for IP headers or IP tunnels,
  • The RFC 4019 defines a compression profile for IP/UDP-Lite and IP/UDP-Lite/RTP headers,
  • The RFC 6846 defines a compression profile for IP/TCP headers.

Famous quotes containing the words additional and/or compression:

The world will never be long without some good reason to hate the unhappy; their real faults are immediately detected, and if those are not sufficient to sink them into infamy, an additional weight of calumny will be superadded.
    Samuel Johnson (1709–1784)

Do they [the publishers of Murphy] not understand that if the book is slightly obscure it is because it is a compression and that to compress it further can only make it more obscure?
    Samuel Beckett (1906–1989)
