Modern Revival
In modern times, the frost fair was revived with a one-day festival alongside the river at Bankside on 22 December 2003, and has since grown, the 2008 festival lasting over a week, with events spanning two weekends. Known as the Bankside Winter Festival, it was modelled after Christmas markets, and featured a market and numerous other events.

Famous quotes containing the words modern and/or revival:
“The United States is the only great nation whose government is operated without a budget. The fact is to be the more striking when it is considered that budgets and budget procedures are the outgrowth of democratic doctrines and have an important part in developing the modern constitutional rights.... The constitutional purpose of a budget is to make government responsive to public opinion and responsible for its acts.”
—William Howard Taft (18571930)
“Mother goddesses are just as silly a notion as father gods. If a revival of the myths of these cults gives woman emotional satisfaction, it does so at the price of obscuring the real conditions of life. This is why they were invented in the first place.”
—Angela Carter (19401992)
